Travis Martinez has had family in the Bitterroot for most of the past century. He has lived in many parts of the world but has considers the Bitterroot Valley his home. Travis Joined the United States Army Reserve when he was 17. He went to Basic Combat Training between his junior and senior year of High School. After he graduated High School in Darby, Travis Started College at the University of Montana. In February 2003 He was mobilized with his Army Reserve Unit to Fort Carson, Colorado. There he worked for the 7th Infantry Division as the NCO in charge of Field Operations. Upon release from active duty Travis applied for and was accepted as a Department of Defense Contractor working Casualty Affairs for the Iraq War. During this time Travis spent a short time in the Republic of Korea as a Psychological Operations Advisor. In December 2004 Travis was again mobilized with the U.S. Army Reserves to Iraq. There he led a Psychological Operations Tactical Team in the Province of Dyala, Iraq.
