Any recommendations for the best and most reasonably priced screen capture software?

I've tried a couple 'freebies,' but I haven't found anything better than Camtasia... it is $300, but it's amazing.  If you only need it temporarily, you can download the fully-functional trial version.  It works for 30 days... after that you have to enter your licensing code or it stops working.  Camtasia is made by TechSmith.

I also like their screen shot software, Snagit.  It seems to be pretty high quality for a screenshot.  They have the same deal on that for the 30 day trial version.  I think it's $50 for Snagit.  Snagit will also do video clips, but it doesn't have all the functionality of Camtasia.  If you're on a budget and just need basic video screen capture, Snagit may be your solution! :)

Get a Mac... it's built into the new version of Quicktime in OS X Snow Leopard (called Quick Capture). Then there's also ScreenFlow for Mac at $99.

Mac is too pricey and too proprietary.  And I don't like FCP... hehe!  To each his own.

I have a MAC with Snow Leopard, I never knew it had screen capture.  Thanks for the info everyone.

Screenflow is definately worth the $99 for Mac video screen capture.  Quicktime screen recording is nice but does not have a very robust set of editing tools for quality finished product.

I have to agree with some of the others on Screenflow because of its quality and editing capabilities.

Another option for Mac.

iShowU is a great and very affordable (starts at $20 and goes up to $60 for the Pro HD version).  Its very easy to use and offers tons of options.  Definitely worth checking out vs. Camtasia.

www.jingproject.com/

Try Jing, it's free.  But the free version will only let you record up to 5 minutes.

Mac and PC versions.

Michael  - have you tried Snagit ??   - I  have used it and does most everything you would need to capture the screen and also allows voice over.  I think they still have a free version.  PC based !
