Getting paid on site with credit cards

Not sure if anyone has tried this, but I've been very successfully using a new company, SQUARE to accept credit card payments on site.

This company was started by the guy that started Twitter.  They send you a free square "reader", which plugs into the audio port of your iPhone.  They take 2.75% of the transaction + 15¢ per swipe.  Clients sign on my iPhone or iPad with their fingertip.  It's a pretty good deal compared to the ridiculous fees charged by banks, etc.

It's pretty slick...   You install a free app.  I swipe the client's credit card.  Then I take a photo of the house.  They sign the phone.  I email them a receipt with the total amount, and the address and photo of the house!    The money is transferred (less the fee) to my bank account the next day.  Simplifies my life and i get paid immediately!

I have Square set up as well, but haven't used it, because I thought there was a $60 transaction limit.  Did I miss something there?

Nope... not for me anyway... my average charge is about $450 and it works every time!

Do you have two swipe or can you enter the number via keypad if it's a phone order?

You can enter via keypad, but the rate is higher too (3% instead of 2.75%)... sure is convenient!

If I can swipe the card, that would have actually saved me at least once this week!  Now I'm waiting for them to put that in through a Paypal invoice... haha.  I need to look at that!

Square immediately settles up to $1,001.00 per week to your bank account. Any balance over your immediate settlement amount remains in your Square account for 30 days and will then be automatically deposited into your bank account.  So it is somewhat useful but if doing a big amount of biz like a big show or something where you are selling mdse it could be awhile before you get settled up.

Our square is on its way an we will use for those on the road occasions.

I think I may use this tomorrow... haha! :)  Originally the transaction limit WAS $60, but it's nice to see they've upgraded it.  Now if they'll raise the $1000/week limit, I'd be rockin' 'n rollin'.

Anybody know about PCI compliance?  Square's website says nothing about PCI Compliance, and I've found several articles on other websites saying they are not currently PCI compliant... If I had an iPhone, I wouldn't worry as much about security (since Apple polices the App Store), but Google doesn't really monitor Android Market, so I'm kinda worried about that...

Thoughts?

Update:

Their website now talks about PCI compliance and says they are fully PCI compliant (tier one).  Very cool... I carry my Square card reader everywhere. :)

guess my response to the security question took too long and I have been unable to get going with them.  It's been a couple of weeks and I can't seem to get anyone from Square to contact me.  Anybody have a contact#?

I'm sure Square is very busy just trying to keep up with their growth.  It took my 5 months to get my first card reader from them because they were so back-logged with requests.

What's your security question? I don't know if I'll know the answer, but I do know they are PCI tier one compliant (according to their website).  That means all data is encrypted and then sent directly to them (nothing is stored on the app, device, or the reader).

They just emailed me.  Only took 2 weeks
