Map/video search feature...
I saw this on Coldwell Banker's Youtube channel and I think it's a wicked cool concept (browse by map)... just thought I'd post it here if anyone else was interested:
Hey that is cool... is this a Coldwell Banker thing or a YouTube service?
I'm not sure how they got it on yet... but it's awesome! It's just an application overlayed on Google maps. I know many companies/organizations have set up customized Youtube channels... I'd like to know how to do that and how much they pay to do it...
I agree this is really a cool apt - I could see it being used in other industries besides real estate.. I have sent my IT friend the link to ask him how the functions and applications are designed.
Very cool I suspect that was developed by Youtube for Coldwell Banker and I think Youtube will make some big plays into the real estate video world as this industry progresses, and with apps like that they could WOW consumers especially if that can be integrated into local franchises websites.
I could see this being integrated with google earth. Google earth and their maps will already show various businesses on the maps, now just add YouTube videos to those businesses and voila! A new advertising market.
You can embed YouTube video on Google MAPS (not Google Earth)... that's been available for quite awhile.. I did it once. But it gets to the point where your head starts spinning with all this stuff...
Fred, are you talking about the videos actually being on the map? I know you can list your business with Google Maps so it pops up when someone searches, and you can add videos to your listing, but do you mean they can actually click on icons on the map and watch the video? That would be awesome. Google Earth already has photos attached, so I'm sure video will be added soon. The problem with Google Earth is that most people don't have fast enough computers & internet connections to run it well, but I think that will improve with time.
If nothing else, I can suggest things like this to clients to get their videos "out there." It's amazing the things you can do for free in advertising these days!
Dustin,
Yes ... they're on the map where you click and watch the youtube video in a popup. To get the video thumbnails onto the map, just click on the "More ..." option, then check "Videos". You can see the thumbnails of varying sizes ... I'm not sure what Google criteria affects that, popularity (#views, user/link relevance, etc). Click the "Photos" box and really watch the map fill up.
I've been aware of the CB YouTube channel to Browse by Map for about a month. It reminded me a little of a WMAT Group Channel. I agree, a very cool browsing feature.
Ditto on Fred's comment: "... it gets to the point where your head starts spinning with all this stuff..."
