On Camera, bat. powered light?
Anybody have any good recomendations for an on camera, battery powered light?
I currently use a 250w AC light, but I find it a real time eater locating plugs that are out of my shot.
I use a Tot-a-Lite and at one point wanted to see if I could get away with a camera mounted light rather than moving the light tripod around with me. I actually talked with someone at B & H Photo and ended up ordering one. It was a disaster - too little light, cumbersome, and a huge unwieldly and HEAVY battery pack (I think it was 8 pounds, maybe more) requiring you to be tethered to your camera. I tried it on the camera and unless you're doing interview shooting of a person less than 8-10 feet away it was useless. It lit up the center of the image area, leaving darker areas to the left and right of the frame so it looked very odd as I panned. I repacked everything, got return approval from B & H, and returned the darned thing.
I hope this was helpful in making your decision.
