All,

To complete our mobile support offering, we are currently working on an update to our embed codes.

When complete, our player will detect the type of device that is trying to access it and play videos via video formats that are compatible with that device.

Coming soon (hopefully by the end of next week).

That is terrific.... mobile is where it's at!  Now to just get apps like SmarterAgent to include videos with their apps and we'll be all set!

Glad universal embeds are going to solve a lot of problems for you all! That's the goal!

Hah...I think there is A LOT more needed in real estate video before we are "all set" Fred; count on us to do what we can though.

Awesome!  I may just set up another account just for my main website (corporate/business stuff)!  :)  Let us all know when it goes live!  My main site is mostly all desktop visitors still, but I get about 5% of my traffic from mobile devices now, which is about 10 times more than a year ago (granted, I've been some of those)... and I'd really rather not resort to Youtube because that does not reinforce my brand.

You guys are awesome!

Universal embed codes have been available on WellcomeMat since about last Thursday or so. Note that some platforms (so far we've detected Posterous and Eventbrite) that do not like the universal embed codes yet: I believe they view this type of code as a security risk. But, for most purposes, Universal embed codes can be used just about anywhere and play videos on almost all devices.

I've loaded a couple of universal embeds on my webpage, but so far no luck with either of them playing on my Android phone.

Anybody else have success?

 Tommy,

Just to be sure, are you getting your Universal Embed codes from Tools & Widgets > Embed Videos ?

As a heads up, we are leaving Universal Embed codes within that area of the site because we have ran into a few platforms that do not support universal embeds from WellcomeMat (and other services). The best course of action that we could think of was to offer Universal Embeds but take the safer route via our normal embed options (to limit support and trouble for users).

Actually I went through the maximize views link, to the embed section...I hadn't noticed there was a difference, but I'll give this route a try and see how it goes...

No luck. I've changed the sizes a couple of times just so I know the embed is uploading to my site.

The thumbnail pops up with the player button. I tap the play button, it highlights and forms an orange box around the play button, and that's it.  It never plays.

The page I've been playing around with is:

www.highdefrealty.com/home/sold.html

Wondering if anybody else can see it on their phone?

 All,

It would be hugely helpful to know which exact Android models we are having trouble with. Developing for iPhones has proven to be easier because there are so much fewer types of hardware to support. But, to my knowledge, we have just about all Android models covered. The ones that we don't we definitely want to know about.

Sending this thread to the support team now. Thanks and keep the feedback coming.

Good to know it's working on more phones than not at least.

I've got a mytouch 3g, maybe when they bump the operating system up to froyo 2.2 it'll work. ?

Works for me... I'm on the original Motorola Droid with 2.2 OS (just updated a week or two ago).  I tried your link Tommy, and the video played back for me-- I don't know if it just played it in flash or not though... with the Froyo update I got the Flash 10.1 update on my phone as well, so most videos work for me now anyway.

Good stuff guys!  This feature is one thing that's going to keep me here longer!  WellcomeMat rocks!

Hey All -

Unfortunately, Android devices are extremely hard to universally support.  We're working on improving support across multiple platforms, but we're playing a game of cat and mouse with the phone manufacturers.  Ultimately, when most phones are upgraded to a more modern version of Android - the universal embed will most likely work.  It would be extremely helpful for everyone to keep posting the model of phone they are testing with along with any notes as to exactly what happens, i.e. "Orange box surrounds the image but nothing happens" or "Video player opens but an error occurs saying the video is not supported".

We will absolutely do our best to get these issues worked out - and we appreciate any feedback you give to help us to that end.

Cheers,
David

I had a complaint today that one of our tutorial videos we had embedded wasn't displaying on a new computer running Windows 7 and IE.  So I tested on an older Windows machine running IE7 and sure enough none of them were showing up until I dragged my mouse across where it was supposed to be then it showed instantly.  This happen everytime I refreshed and loaded the page.  We are back to Standard for a bit :).
Others should test this and be sure your mouse is not where the video should be displayed when the page loads.  Once I put the Standard back they worked 100%.

Mark,

Could you give it a try again and see if it's working for you now?  I just checked on our test machine with Windows and all seems well.

Cheers,
David

I updated Java on this machine which gets rare use and it is fine.  If this agent bought a new computer perhaps she doesn't have java installed....would there be any message displayed or just a blank space?

We don't use Java, however updating Flash to the newest version would be a good idea.  The agent could also check to make sure she has the newest version of Flash by visiting this page:

David

hmmm then that isn't it because I have and had the latest version flash and her computer is brand new so her version wouldn't be too old and she plays all other tours fine.  I have other windows machines so will test it out over the next few days on others.

Saw an article on TechCrunch today that 70% of Android phones are now running 2.1 or 2.2.  That's good news! :)  Love the unviersal embed so far... I've only tested it on desktops and Android, but if it runs on Android I'm sure Apple products work just fine.  This has to be the one feature that I'm most excited about-- way to stay ahead of the game!

I too love the Universal embed codes we're pushing out: just when you think that video is starting to settle down a bit, new devices come out and force the video industry to support a multitude of new formats.

If I am honest, I love the "Unbrander" at least as much. It's a simple tool that-in my opinion-can save people a lot of editing time.

So, since I can't see these on my phone, was wondering if there was an ideal size to make these videos on the mobile webpage.  Anybody know?

Hello all, I just tested the universal embed codes on a iphone and then ipad. The iphone quality was very poor pver a wifi network and on the ipad it didn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks

Matt

I think it's that the 3G networks aren't there yet.  That's just the nature of the beast as video is by standard just about the largest file there is.  It's too much information to download and to do so fast it kills the quality.  Kinda makes me wonder if it's worth it at this point, or wait until the wireless technology is up to snuff to properly show the videos in true high definition (which in theory it should do if the user is connected to a home based network rather than a 3g one). I'm not sure about 4g, I think only Sprint has that so far and there are only a handful, if not one or two 4g phones on the market right now.

Then again, this is just my thinking, but I may not be correct because now that I think about it I've watched decent quality vids on 3g upon occasion.  ?

Matthew,

Could you post a link to where you're seeing the iPhone work w/ poor quality and the iPad not work at all?

Thanks,
David

Just got a complaint from a client that one of her videos won't play on her iphone 4? She's getting the message "Sorry! This video is not encoded for the mobile devices yet. Please check back soon." They are using the universal embed code. Is iphone 4 not supported?

Russell...mobile compatibility is only offered to people that are at WellcomeMat's Pro customer level. Simply upgrade the account that the video in question is within and your video will be encoded into all file formats for delivery on all devices. Thanks and email support@wellcomemat.com with any questions.
