Video is the New Photo - WellcomeMat Video App
WellcomeMat's iPhone App is now available in the App Store, and-as usual- we're breaking the news here in The Hood.
The significance of WellcomeMat's point, shoot and share iPhone video application is that it is now easier to post a video for a property than it is to post photos.
Detect Your Current Location on the Map > Shoot a New Video or Post an Existing Video > Share on WellcomeMat, Twitter, YouTube & Facebook.
WellcomeMat's team has often looked at the DIY (do-it-yourself) versus hire a professional debate as somewhat worthless. Why? Because the more people there are doing video themselves, the more people will realize that hiring a pro makes sense.
Do it yourself video just got a helluva lot easier and we are glad to be the company making it happen. The Flip camera got us one step closer to video being easy to do, acting as a hard drive for videos that are shot in web-ready formats. Now people can post their videos straight from their iPhone: no chords, no format changes, no compression and no barriers.
Thanks to everyone helping us to make video the new photo in real estate marketing!
Christian, awesome post! For those of us who are "heavily" locked into our 15 phone family plan at Verizon and have Blackberry's (STORM), any chance of adding the BB app anytime soon!
As soon as Apple & AT&T run out their exclusivity contract &/or add Verizon, I'll be on board! I'm just waiting... there are rumors it will happen when Verizon's 4G launches next year and the next iPhone comes out... who knows!?!
WellcomeMat has significant plans for mobile video. iPhone is the start.
It's cool! Not sure how I would use it, but it works very well!
Definitely and EASY way to locate and watch a video on a mobile device - without a lot of hassle and typing, etc. would be the PERFECT application. To be able to sit in front of a house, in your car, and type in something EASY and SIMPLE to be able to pull up a video - Priceless!
Fred,
The app that we just released is more for posting videos than viewing. We do plan to support mobile viewing soon: hopefully very soon, but I cannot be sure with all that's going on.

Hi Christian, that is great news! But I just tried to upload a video from my iPhone and I can't find it on WellcomeMat! Help!
Jonathan,
WellcomeMat "transcodes" videos that are uploaded to our site, so your video would not be available right away. If you do not receive an activation email from us soon, please email support@wellcomemat.com as tech-related issues can be tackled more efficiently via that address. Thanks!
I tried it... worked great (although the video was lousy because it was of me saying "test test test"!)
Hah! That's funny and sounds exactly like the ones that we've posted recently. Tip: shoot these videos with the iPhone's home button on the right and hold the phone horizontally.
There is a serious issue with detecting the angle at which these videos are shot. Until we beat the issue, follow the above tips.
It took me awhile to figure it out, but you have to orient the phone FIRST before you hit the video button. Otherwise it's vertical and looks kinda dumb.
This is great news, I instantly downloaded this app. I am looking forward to using it. I love my flip video camera, it is super convenient, but does require the extra step of going to the office, uploading to my mac, and then uploading to the web. But this app will allow me to go and shoot fast videos of homes, for example, and send to clients. I will use it for things other than video tours where I don't need to edit or be as formal.
By the way, I tried to comment on this post via my iPhone, and it wouldn't let me click in this text box to type. Was I doing something wrong? I logged in just fine, though.
Do I need to upgrade my iphone? I don't think I can shoot video with it.
Marty,
The App is currently usable only on the iPhone 3GS
Pretty cool app. My wish list:
iPhone app to record, pause and resume for one clip.
WellcomeMat to allow multiple clips from our camera roll to upload as one video. That way we could trim each individual clip as needed and combine them into one video.
Not asking for much...LOL!
OK, just uploaded my first iphone video. Pretty cool, I like how it automatically uploads a google map for the location.
Hah Terri...you are a forward-thinker. I am afraid that if I asked for a single new feature from our development team right now, I might leave the office without a head.
Marty,
Glad you like the app! Thanks for checking it out and don't forget to update it! We just got notice that our new version is available and it has some important updates within it.

Hey everyone! Hope you're having a great day/night. Just a quick note to let you know we've updated the iPhone application. You can now shoot mobile videos and with one-click post them to YouTube, Twitter and Posterous! Other updates include minor bug fixes and a progress bar to view the upload as it progresses. Complete details here >
All the best - MM
I understand one of my 'wish list' items may have come true! There is a new iPhone app called "reeldirector" which is a video editing application. I'll have to splurge on the $7.99 price and check it out. Anyone tried it yet and if so, what's your experience?
