Video Stuttering
How do you deal with video stuttering... Having a fairly recent iMac I didn't think of it being a problem, until a broker I was trying to convert to video recently pointed out "the video had awful streaming no matter what computer I went to see it on, I would want to be convinced that streaming is improved".
I thought he must be having a connection problem at his office, but then I went to check it on an older G4 Mac and a laptop. Even at 480 x 270 and a bit rate of 600 it stutters. I then went to view the videos on WellcomeMat on these older machines and they do the same thing.
How broad of a problem is this, if the videos dddon't start or pppplay smoothly?
Most of the time, stuttering is problematic on older computers and slow connections. For the most part, the homebuyers searching online are somewhat tech-savvy (to the point that they go to the internet first at the very least), and they are using the internet at home. I've noticed office connections tend to be slower than home connections because those office connections are often spread over many users/machines and slow it ddddown.... the average internet speed in the US is 5 mbps (which slower than other parts of the world, like Japan). I just tell people like it is: your internet connection is generally to blame. I have home users who have DSL and report no problems while at work the same user has problems on their T1. The difference is that the DSL connection is for 1 computer, and the work connection is for 25.
I usually use 1280x720 and a bit rate of 6100, and I've only had a couple complaints: 2 from dial-up connections and 1 from somebody in a large office building where he shares his connection with all the offices in the building. Broadband penetration is improving all the time... so you would think this will happen less and less. :)
Hey... it's a LOT better than it was 5 years ago! I used to have to post detailed instructions on EACH video just to keep the phone from ringing....
