Contact Mary Hovey-Miller at 517-719-5555 - Front of home: Welcome to 707 S Main St. In 1886, a young farmer from Springport gave up farming, built this home, and a successful future. M.D. Crawford came to Eaton Rapids and married Belle Stirling. The Stirling family had been well established in Eaton Rapids dating back to 1839. Together with one of the Stirling brothers, MD Crawford established a grocery store, Stirling & Crawford. (more)
Later, Mr. Crawford on his own went in to wholesale distribution. He exported eggs, butter and poultry to smaller grocers in rural areas. He made large purchases from Chicago wholesalers, bringing a variety of products to the area for distribution. Mr. Crawford lived in to his 80s and even after his death, this home remained in his family, owned by his daughter for many years. Almost 125 years old, this home has been kept, for the most part, in original condition. Foyer: Bring your antiques and showcase them in this Victorian home. Ten foot ceilings, and woodwork that has never been painted in still in excellent condition. Notice this beautiful pocket door. Parlor: Notice the original fireplace with original tile, mantel, and detailed oxen scene on the cover. Again, 10 foot ceilings and crown moulding throughout. The bay window is a perfect place to sit and enjoy a game of pool. The drapes are matched to those in the Foyer. Another solid pocket door leads to a family room... Family Room: These built ins will hold all of your books and supplies, and you will be able to display all of your family heirlooms here as well. The paint is Portsmouth Blue a color selected from a historic paint deck. This French Door will provide a nice breeze in summer as well a let you out to the side yard. These oak pocket doors and recently refinished wood floors lead right in to the dining room... Dining Room: Notice that the wood floors continue to this room, and this dining room will seat the entire family for an old-fashioned Holiday dinner. The blinds in this room are custom hardwood. The paint in this room is Covered Wagon which is a deep wine color and again from the historic paint deck. Kitchen: The tall ceilings continue and give a good spacious feeling. The cupboards are ivory, with Navy Blue counters. The appliances come with the house and are all less than 2 yrs old. The color of the appliances is Bisque. Vinyl flooring is easy to keep clean. Downstairs Bath: Charming touches with the brick wallpaper to enhance the original cook chimney that was purposely exposed for character. Behind this sliding door, is a utility area to hang coats, and such. Back Porch: Totally enclosed, wth sliding door for plenty of light and air. Ready for a deck or patio out to the side. Generous coat closet. Brick wall left exposed for additional character. Outside, this newer stairway would be great as a private entrance for perhaps a young adult still living at home. Great for bringing in large pieces of furniture. Carriage Barn: There is a newer garage door and door opener. This barn has a great deal of storage, having both a second floor, and a loft. Shed: This is a newer shed with wood floor and cement board siding. The stained glass window is actually original to this house.(less)
