If you’re a professional filmmaker, you may have been using DSLR’s for a few years now. But, for most folks in the real estate industry, whether they be real estate agents, brokers, brands or even photographers, more and more have recently started to embrace DSLR’s instead of their traditional camcorders for their video productions.

Today we talk to Ted Mackel, a Keller Willams real estate agent from Simi Valley, California who just so happened to make this switch. Ironically, even as Ted mentions in our Airtime real estate trends video interview, her should have adopted DSLR cameras into his filmmaking much sooner.

Ted has been using a Canon HV30 camcorder for many years in his business. I have the same camcorder as well and even though it shoots great prosumer like quality HD video, it has it’s limitations.

I’m excited to see how quality of Ted’s videos and storytelling transition now that he’s using the new Canon T4i DSLR, with autofocus. Btw, anecdotally speaking, the lack of autofocus is what I have heard had been holding many folks back from trying DSLR’s. Looking forward to seeing if this changes the game a bit in the coming months.

Thanks for a great interview Ted!

Bonus: With Camera Technology advancing so rapidly, today, Canon announced a Point and Shoot mini version of the New Canon T4i, the Canon EOS M. Who knows, maybe we’ll be doing another real estate video trend in the near future, DSLR’s to DSLR-Like Point and Shoots
